The history of porcelain in Russia is connected with Dmitry Vinogradov. This amazing inventor was friends and worked together with Mikhail Lomonosov. After graduating from the academy, the two friends went to work at the University of Marburg in Germany. Vinogradov spent several years abroad. After returning to his homeland, he planned to go to the Urals, but Empress Elizabeth prevented him from leaving Moscow.

Vinogradov got a job at Porcelain Manufactory. Elizaveta Petrovna dreamed of establishing a porcelain production in Russia. To this end, a German like Christopher Gunger was hired to work. It was he who became the director of Porcelain Manufactory on Neva. This cunning German became popular because he told everyone that he was a close acquaintance with John Betger and was able to learn from him the secret of making porcelain substance.
